How to manually update VIPRE Home Threat Definitions

By default VIPRE will automatically check for updated definitions every 30 minutes.This is contingent on the computer being powered on and connected to the internet. In the event you do need to manually update your VIPRE Threat Definitions, you can do so by following the steps below.

IMPORTANT: The instructions below differ based on the version of VIPRE that is installed.

VIPRE 2016 (Version 9.0 and below)

VIPRE 2016 (Version 9.3 and above)

VIPRE 2016 (Version 9.0 and below) Manual Definition Update Process:

Click Here to navigate to the Definition Download page
Expand “For VIPRE Home versions 9.0 and below”
Save the most recent definition file (.sgn) to a known location (you will need this file in a future step)
Open VIPRE
Click on Account and then About VIPRE
Click on Support Tools
Scroll to the bottom of this page and locate Threat Definitions and click on Load
Navigate to the previously saved Definition File and click Open
Allow the update process to complete (this may take several minutes)

VIPRE 2016 (Version 9.3 and above) Manual Definition Update Process:

Click Here to navigate to the Definition Download page
Expand “For VIPRE Home version 9.3 and above”
Save the most recent definition file (.sgnx) to a known location (you will need this file in a future step)
Open VIPRE
Click on Account and then About VIPRE
Click on Support Tools
Scroll to the bottom of this page and locate Threat Definitions and click on Load
Navigate to the previously saved Definition File and click Open
Allow the update process to complete (this may take several minutes – note that it’s normal for manually applied definitions to be out of date)
